v = Q ÷ A = Q ÷ (π × d² ÷ 4)

Common guideline velocities for hydraulic oil: pressure lines 2–6 m/s, return lines 1.5–4 m/s, suction lines 0.6–1.2 m/s. A suction line that is too small is a common cause of pump cavitation and noise.
