How it's calculated

Availability = MTBF ÷ (MTBF + MTTR)

This is inherent availability: it only counts breakdowns. Planned maintenance, changeovers and waiting also reduce operational availability. For the production view, use the OEE calculator.

You can raise availability by making failures rarer (MTBF) or repairs faster (MTTR). Fast repairs are often quicker to win.
