How it's calculated
Scrap rate = scrapped ÷ total produced × 100
Annual cost = scrapped per week × cost per part × weeks
A scrapped part costs the material plus all the machine time, labour and energy already spent on it, and often a disposal or recycling charge. Cutting scrap also frees capacity, because good parts no longer have to be remade.
