How it's calculated

Hours released = (current − target) × changeovers per week × weeks ÷ 60

SMED (single-minute exchange of die) moves setup work to be done while the machine is still running (external), and speeds up the rest. Shorter changeovers can also let you run smaller batches, which cuts stock.
