How it's calculated

Use the actual running power, not the nameplate maximum. Loads that cycle, like heaters, compressors and chillers, run only part of the time: multiply by the duty cycle. A clamp meter reading gives a good estimate: kW ≈ √3 × V × I × PF for three-phase loads.
