How it's calculated
Leg load = W ÷ (n × cos θ)
θ = angle of the leg from vertical
Leg tension rises as the angle from vertical increases: ×1.41 at 45° and ×2 at 60°. With 3 or 4 legs, the load often ends up on only two legs because of leg length differences and a stiff load. That is why the first result assumes just two legs carry it.
