Daily noise exposure (LEP,d) calculator

Daily personal noise exposure from levels and durations.

e.g. 95:2 means 95 dB(A) for 2 hours

Calculating…

How it's calculated

LEP,d = 10 × log10( Σ (tᵢ ÷ 8) × 10^(Lᵢ/10) )

Every 3 dB increase doubles the noise energy, so 2 hours at 95 dB(A) is the same dose as 8 hours at 89 dB(A). UK action values under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005: lower 80 dB(A), upper 85 dB(A), limit 87 dB(A). Peak sound pressure limits also apply.

For guidance only. Noise assessments should use measured levels and be carried out by a competent person.
